Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how ROXLY ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the ROXLY application and website (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

• Account information: username, email address, and password (stored in encrypted/hashed form — we never store your password in plain text)
• Chat messages: any messages you send in the General Chat Hub (automatically cleared every 24 hours)
• Payment information: if you subscribe to ROXLY Pro, payment is processed entirely by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number.

Information Collected Automatically

• Location data: your device's GPS coordinates, used to determine your proximity to other users on the map and to power channel and nearby-user discovery. Location is requested each time you use the app and is used in real time.
• Voice audio: when you use the push-to-talk feature, your voice is transmitted live to other users in your active channel via our voice infrastructure provider (LiveKit). Voice audio is not recorded or stored by ROXLY at any point.
• Photos (optional): if you choose to set a custom background image from your camera roll, that image is stored locally on your device only and is not uploaded to our servers.
• Usage data: basic technical information such as browser type and general app interaction, used for troubleshooting and improving the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Operate and maintain the Service, including the proximity map, voice channels, and chat hub;
• Create and manage your account and subscription status;
• Process subscription payments through Stripe, including automatic renewal and cancellation;
• Determine which users appear as "nearby" to one another based on real-time location;
• Send you service-related communications (such as account or billing notices);
• Send push notifications you have opted into (e.g., alerts when someone joins a channel near you);
• Maintain the security and integrity of the Service;
• Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. How Information Is Shared

With Other Users: Your username, chosen dot color, and general proximity (as a dot on the map) are visible to other nearby users. Any messages you post in the General Chat Hub are visible to all users with an account. Anyone who joins the same voice channel as you can hear you speak while your microphone is active.

With Service Providers: We share limited information with third-party providers who help us operate the Service, including Stripe (payment processing), LiveKit (real-time voice transmission), and Railway and Netlify (application hosting and infrastructure). These providers only receive the information necessary to perform their function.

For Legal Reasons: We may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of ROXLY, our users, or the public.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account remains active. Chat messages in the General Chat Hub and private channels are automatically deleted after 24 hours. Voice audio is never retained — it exists only as a live transmission between users at the moment of speaking.

You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at the email below.

5. Your Choices

• Location: You can decline or revoke location permission through your device or browser settings. Note that ROXLY's core proximity features will not function without location access.
• Notifications: Push notifications are opt-in and can be disabled at any time in Settings.
• Membership: You can start or cancel your ROXLY Pro subscription at any time from the Membership section in Settings.
• Account deletion: Contact us to request deletion of your account and personal data.

6. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including password hashing and encrypted connections (HTTPS/SSL). However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

ROXLY is intended for users 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a person under 18, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

8. International Users

ROXLY is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
